DreamStone Diamonds Are Certified

There are many diamond laboratories that issue certificates, but the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is the most highly regarded and widely recognized diamond grading lab in the world. Known for their consistency, strict evaluation process, and impartial standards, GIA has earned the industry’s trust. Over 95% of DreamStone loose diamonds are certified by GIA. A diamond accompanied by a GIA certificate is considered highly valuable due to their long-standing reputation for accuracy and excellence.

To accommodate customer preferences, we also offer a small selection of diamonds certified by other respected labs such as IGI, including lab-grown diamonds.

Why Do I Need a Certificate?

A grading report verifies the diamond's characteristics as represented by the seller, allowing you to make an informed, confident decision. It also provides a standardized basis for comparison shopping. Even small differences in grading can significantly affect a diamond’s value. Being able to compare stones side by side is crucial.

DreamStone’s diamond search tool allows you to select and compare multiple diamonds’ key characteristics side by side for easy evaluation.

View Diamond Certificates Online

Every loose diamond on DreamStone comes with a grading report. Many of these certificates are available for online viewing. The original certificate will be included with your diamond order. For diamonds that may not yet display a certificate, please contact our Client Services team at 1-800-818-8386.

Reading a Grading Report

A Diamond Grading Report outlines the detailed characteristics of a diamond. Trusted labs like the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) issue these reports.

Cut Grade

A grade that evaluates the diamond’s face-up appearance, factoring in both design and craftsmanship.

Shape and Cutting Style

The description of the diamond’s outline and cutting technique (e.g., Round Brilliant, Emerald Cut).

Color Grade

This grade reflects the diamond’s lack of color—the less color, the higher the grade.

Clarity Grade

Determined by the number, size, and location of internal inclusions and external blemishes, observed under 10x magnification.

Carat Weight

The diamond’s weight, measured to the nearest hundredth of a carat.

Measurement

The diamond’s physical dimensions in millimeters (length × width × depth).

Polish

Rates the smoothness and quality of the diamond’s surface finish.

Symmetry

Evaluates the alignment and balance of the diamond’s facets and the evenness of its outline.

Finish

An overall rating of the diamond’s surface quality, polish, and facet placement.

Fluorescence

The visible glow a diamond may emit when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light.

Clarity Plot

A diagram showing the approximate location, type, and size of visible inclusions under magnification.

Proportion Diagram

A visual representation of the diamond’s shape and cut proportions.

Comments

Additional notes describing unique features or observations that don’t fit into standard grading categories.
